LA28 Olympic Games

The Olympic Games of the modern era have a beautiful opening ceremony that begins with the lighting of the Olympic flame in Olympia, and whose fire is carried from there to the city that has the honor of hosting the games, in this case Los Angeles, to light the cauldron there and let its light illuminate the world, oblivious to wars and human miseries. Very beautiful, I don't doubt it.

Before that wonderful moment, there is a parade of delegations from all participating countries. This parade makes the ceremony seem somewhat tedious, since it is necessary to watch more than 200 delegations of athletes do it, which takes almost two hours. But, beyond that, this parade through countries seems to me to be not totally in line with the Olympic spirit: “Friendship, respect and the pursuit of excellence.” I think it would be much more agile, and would be more connected to that spirit of brotherhood and unity that the games transmit, a ceremony in which the parade, instead of being held by countries, would be held by sports. I explain:

The parade would be led by the flag bearers of all the countries together, each one carrying the flag of their country. Behind them would be the 35 different sports: athletics, gymnastics, swimming... each of the athletes carrying, if desired, a small flag of their country. Doing it this way, 35 groups of athletes would leave, not 200 groups, which would shorten the time of the parade. But, beyond that, I imagine how beautiful it would be to see all the athletes of the same sport marching together, regardless of their country of origin, the color of their skin or their religion. A union more typical, I believe, of the Olympic spirit.

I hope that the idea may be of interest to you and that, in the Olympic Games that will be held in your beautiful city in 2028, the opening ceremony differs from the rest of those held until now by holding the parade in this way.

Los Juegos Olímpicos de la era moderna tienen una hermosa ceremonia de inauguración que empieza con el encendido de la llama olímpica en Olimpia, y cuyo fuego es llevado desde allí hasta la ciudad que tiene el honor de ser la sede de los juegos, en este caso Los Ángeles, para encender allí el pebetero y que su luz ilumine el mundo, ajeno a guerras y miserias humanas. Muy hermoso, no lo dudo.

Antes de ese maravilloso momento, hay un desfile de las delegaciones de todos los países participantes. Ese desfile hace que la ceremonia parezca algo tediosa, ya que es necesario ver cómo lo hacen más de 200 delegaciones de deportistas, lo que lleva casi dos horas. Pero, más allá de eso, ese desfile por países me parece que no está totalmente acorde al espíritu olímpico: “Amistad, respeto y búsqueda de la excelencia”. Creo que sería mucho más ágil, y estaría más conectado con ese espíritu de hermandad y de unión que transmiten los juegos, una ceremonia en la que el desfile, en lugar de hacerse por países, se hiciese por deportes. Me explico:

El desfile iría encabezado por los abanderados de todos los países juntos, cada uno portando la bandera de su país. Detrás, lo harían los 35 diferentes deportes: atletismo, gimnasia, natación… portando cada uno de los deportistas, si así se desea, una pequeña banderita de su país. Haciéndolo de esta manera saldrían 35 grupos de deportistas, no 200 grupos, con lo que el tiempo del desfile se acortaría. Pero, más allá de eso, imagino lo hermoso que sería ver a todos los deportistas de un mismo deporte desfilando juntos, sin importar su país de origen, el color de su piel o su religión. Una unión más propia, creo yo, del espíritu olímpico.

Espero que la idea pueda ser de su interés y que, en los Juegos Olímpicos que en 2028 se celebrarán en su hermosa ciudad, la ceremonia de inauguración se diferencia del resto de las celebradas hasta ahora realizando el desfile de esta manera.
